EPA News Report

After completing our investigation as part of the KBS EPA we worked as a team to make this news report to help educate everyone in our school. We used iPod touches to film our clips and we all helped with making our report.

Keeping KBS Beautiful!

What are we going to do now we've finished our EPA Investigation?

We had a meeting to discuss what we found when we carried out our investigation of the KBS school environment. Then we decided what action we would take to help keep KBS beautiful. Here is a list of what we have decided to do:

* We want to keep the 'KBS EPA' (Environmental Protection Agency) going.
(We will collect rubbish daily to keep the environment clean)

* We are going to organise a promotion to stop littering. We are in the process
of designing posters which we are going to put around the school and in our
   KBS newsletters.

* We are going to share our message at Whanau time (During 'Keep NZ
Beautiful Week'). We are putting together a movie / slide show to show
what we discovered and what we want to do about it. Our message is:

"If we don't look after our environment it will end up looking like a rubbish
    dump!"

* We are going to encourage the 'Four R's' - Rethink, Reuse, Recycle, Reduce
(especially composting and recycling which do happen in the school already).

WE NEED TO CHANGE THE WAY PEOPLE THINK SO THAT THEY CAN MAKE BETTER CHOICES ABOUT WHAT THEY DO WITH RUBBISH AND OTHER WASTE.

Inquiry Investigation

Kaiapoi Borough School EPA

After in-depth discussions we agreed we would take on the challenge put to us to be part of the first ever 'KBS EPA' (Environmental Protection Agency). We decided before we could take action we needed to gather some information to help us decide what we could do to help our school.

Our plan is to collect litter from different areas around our school over the course of a week. Once we have done our collection we would analyse the rubbish and determine outlying factors that may impact of what we find.

Keep watching our blog to see our daily results and observations.

A Letter From Mother Earth!

Inquiry Term 3

Today Miss Shirley shared this letter with us. She had a dream that she was talking to Mother Earth and she had a message to share with us. Here is what she had to say...

Keep watching our blog to see if we take up Mother Earth's offer to be part of the first ever 'KBS Environmental Protection Agency'. What action will we take to help protect the future of our environment?

KBS Olympic Ceremony

Wednesday 15th August!

After two weeks of awful weather we were finally able to have our Olympic Celebration. It was great to see all of the KBS team supporting different countries from around the world. We sang our National Anthem beautifully. We are proud of our school and our country. As part of our ceremony we also got to see some of the amazing talent that we have at our school. Who knows... maybe one day we see one of our team in the Olympics!

We have been supporting South Korea as well as New Zealand for these Olympics.
Here we are about to head over to the hall for our Olympic Ceremony.

We all had a great time at the KBS Olympic Ceremony.
Afterwards we got together for one last photo to remember the day.

London Olympics 2012

Olympics 2012

As the Olympics draw to a close we have been reflecting on the New Zealand team's success.  We have loved watching the games and seeing our heroes compete. Now we all want to have a go at new sports we have been watching.

As part of our Olympic learning we created the following silhouettes of Olympic sports for art. We think that they look pretty fabulous!

London Olympics 2012

2012 Olympics

We wrote about which events we would compete in if we were able to go to the Olympics. We put our thinking hats on and thought about how we might feel if we won a medal at an Olympic Games. Here is Isabella's inspirational writing...

Recycle, Reuse, Reduce and Rethink

This term we have been focusing on our impact on future environments as part of our 'LIFE' inquiry. We have been learning all about Recycling, Reusing, Reducing and Rethinking. We made these recycled signs for Lesley who came to visit us about the four R's! She is going to use them to help other school children learn how to care for the environment when she visits other schools!
